Tropical Storm Cindy Will Bring Stormy Weather to Indiana

Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall on Gulf Coast states early Thursday, packing almost 40 miles per hour winds and heavy rainfall, forecasters said.

Ivey said the worst effect of the storm was the death of 10-year-old Nolan McCabe, who was struck by a log during the storm surge Wednesday morning in Fort Morgan.

Cindy weakened to a tropical depression Thursday morning but still brought heavy rain, powerful winds and the threat of floods to the already soaked US Gulf Coast.

Faulkner County officials, business owners and residents prepared to be inundated with heavy rains as remnants from Tropical Storm Cindy were expected to hit Arkansas on Thursday.

West Virginia residents and authorities have marked the anniversary of last year's fatal flooding in that state even as they are bracing for a bout of severe weather associated with the remnants of a tropical storm. Some road flooding has also been reported in far southern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle.

Cindy was centered about 40 miles northwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and is moving north near 12 mph Thursday morning.

Forecasters warned that flash floods remained a danger as the storm moved north.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says two boat launches at Pointe-aux-Chenes (point oh SHEN) Wildlife Management Area near Houma (HOH-much) are closed because of flooding.

This could contribute to locally heavy rain and flooding in parts of the lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, Ohio Valley and possibly the Appalachians.

Overnight Wednesday, Tropical Storm Bret dissipated in the southern Caribbean. They are seeing this as just rain activity.
