Kushner, President Donald Trump's senior adviser, and Greenblatt, a special representative for global negotiations under the Trump administration, are working together to take a look at "all the possibilities" for creating more peace in the Middle East, The Algemeiner noted.

A White House statement said that Kushner and Greenblatt conversed with President Abbas on priorities for the Palestinians and possible next steps, appreciating the desire for economic prospects for Palestinians and major investments in the Palestinian economy.

Even before Benjamin Netanyahu locked him in a warm embrace, Jared Kushner began his effort to broker peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians by making it clear that he completely accepts Israel's vision of itself as an innocent victim.

Ahead of Kushner's visit, Jason Greenblatt, the Trump Administration's peace envoy for the region, echoed that language by condemning what he called the "savage terrorist attack" on the young officer.

A day after meeting the Americans, Abbas defended payments to Palestinian prisoners, including convicted terrorists, as "social responsibility" and accused Israel of trying to sabotage peace negotiations with unreasonable demands.

It wasn't as bad as everybody made it out to be. "But I have owned up to it and I accept responsibility for it from day one". In a separate incident, Jackson was ticketed in February after he struck a parked auto and fled the scene.

Foxman said Israel will take actions toward peace only if the U.S.is in its corner. "They sounded like Netanyahu's advisers and not as honest mediators", a source told Haaretz.

Kushner travelled to Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, on Wednesday for talks with Abbas where, according to Abbas' spokesperson, all major issues at the heart of the conflict were discussed. Is Jared Kushner the Secretary of State? At the same time, it is understood that the U.S. does not want to impose preconditions that would prevent a resumption of substantive peace efforts. He said a Palestinian delegation would head to Washington next month for further talks. But while Netanyahu has been repeatedly critical of Abbas, including in a tweetstorm on Saturday night, Trump has declared that he believes the PA president is "ready to reach for peace".

Israel occupied East Jerusalem, together with the rest of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in the 1967 Middle East war. Deep divisions remain, however, clouding the chances of a significant breakthrough.

In an official statement made after Wednesday's meeting by senior Abbas aide, Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that Kushner addressed some of the thorniest issues on the table in his meeting with Abbas and stressed Trump's commitment to restarting negotiations.

A meeting between Trump and Abbas in Bethlehem in May was also reportedly tense, with the United States leader angrily berating his counterpart over allegations of incitement.
