Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been accused of tax fraud by Spanish prosecutors investigating his time as Real Madrid's head coach.
There have been suggestions that Ronaldo is using links to both United and Paris Saint-Germain to earn a new contract at Real Madrid or in hope of stopping or quietening allegations of tax avoidance against him.
The accusations against Mr Mourinho, now the manager of Manchester United, date back to his time as coach at Real Madrid.
Links to his former club United have obviously emerged, as they do nearly annually.
The cases are about the profits made from image rights, not salaries from their clubs.
Gestifute, a Portuguese-based football agency which represents Mourinho and Ronaldo, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao and Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao, who have also been accused of tax fraud in Spain, are also clients of Mendes.

The attendees included Ambassador Joseph Yun, the U.S. special envoy who traveled to Pyongyang to bring Warmbier back, and U.S. Warmbier was detained in North Korea in January 2016 at the airport in Pyongyang after a short tour of the country.
Mourinho (54) coached Madrid from 2010-13. It released a statement confirming there had been no contact with Mourinho or his representatives from either the Spanish tax authorities or the public prosecutor regarding these allegations.
They claim that Mourinho, who took over at United past year, failed to declare 3.3 million euros ($3.7m, £2.9m) during his time in the Spanish capital - 1.6 million euros in 2011 and 1.7 million euros in 2012.
The Portuguese manager owes Spanish tax authorities 3.3 million euros (about 2.91 million pounds or N1.46 billion), a Madrid prosecutor said in a statement. Ronaldo has denied the charges.
Ronaldo has been linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, due to accusations of tax fraud, but Perez does not think that his player has done anything untoward.
In a surprising turn of events, Ronaldo is apparently no longer interested in leaving Real Madrid.
Angel Di Maria agreed to a deal with Spain's state prosecutor on Wednesday in which the former Real Madrid forward admitted to two counts of tax fraud of nearly 1.3 million euros ($1.4 million) in exchange for a lighter sentence.
