House special election losses leave Democrats divided, searching

The 4-point win in the most expensive congressional race in history was a blow to Democrats, who sought to wrest control of a suburban Atlanta district that Republicans have held since the 1970s.

Republican candidate for Georgia's 6th District Congressional seat Karen Handel declares victory during an election-night watch party Tuesday, June 20, 2017, in Atlanta. "We may have different beliefs, but we are part of one community, the community of the 6th District".

With the Georgia victory, Republicans showed that they could still win in the kind of affluent, educated districts where Democrats have made gains and Trump's populist agenda was sometimes a tough sell.

"There comes a time when every leader has to say, 'For the good of the order and for the betterment of the party, it's time for me to step aside.' And I wish that that would happen right now".

"It was just not clear what Jon Ossoff stood for", he told TPM. "And it never will be again". "But she certainly is one of the reasons". "This became a focal point in our messaging, as well as other outside groups and the Handel campaign itself".

Handel backers, though, hailed Tuesday's results as confirmation that the district remains solidly in the party's grasp.

Handel won, in large measure, because she very effectively played on the most powerful unifying force among modern Republicans - hatred of liberals.

Here's a quick round up of those elections and how Republicans have maintained their grip on their majority in the House of Representatives.

"There are about a handful of people who are now seriously considering it", Rice said. All of the state's congressional seats, including Handel's, will be on the ballot as well. "And we better focus", Ryan said. There are no moral victories in politics, but Tuesday's runoff demonstrated several trends for Georgia. It started with then-Sen. Gomez got 59.2 percent of the votes compared to Ahn's 40.8 percent, according the Los Angeles county clerk. Georgia had the narrowest margin of the states that Obama did not win that year.

Russian navy launches missile strikes at ISIS targets In Syria
Last weekend, for the first time, the US shot down a Syrian fighter jet that had dropped bombs near the SDF. The Russian Defense Ministry also said Turkey and Israel were informed about the missile launches.

When it was all said and done, the Democrats were likely their own undoing. Obama didn't match his first performance in his re-election campaign. Estes got 52.5 percent of the votes over Thompson's 45.7 percent and Rockhold's 1.7 percent, The New York Times reported.

The Democrats once again crawled home with tails between their legs following demoralizing losses in yesterday's House races in Georgia and SC.

The California Democrat has always been a boogeywoman Republicans have used to motivate their base and to woo independents as the personification of liberal values and a reminder of why even if they may like their individual member or candidate, a vote for that Democrat would be a step toward putting Pelosi back in the speaker's chair. The problem is that the former just aren't that into voting.

Along the way, Republicans have solidified near-supermajority control of the General Assembly.

Democrats won a special election in California, but that race was between two Democratic candidates, CNBC reports.

Given this losing streak, will party leaders continue to act as though all they have to do is fan Trump hatred among their base?

Since Trump became president, however, his party actually has won four special elections to fill seats vacated by Republicans leaving to serve in his administration or in other posts.

"The Democrats have lost three elections", she said. Parnell flew well under the radar of national Democrats.

The result comes as relief for Republicans who had grown concerned about whether their party, buffeted by the scandals that have plagued the Republican president, could hold the seat in Georgia's sixth district, which became the most expensive congressional race in USA history. "But as far as a bigger picture, predicting 2018, I don't think there's a lot to learn", Barker said.
