Some 2,500 mourners attended a Thursday morning memorial at Wyoming High School in the Cincinnati suburb of Wyoming.

Warmbier, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student, died Monday, six days after he returned to his OH home in a coma after 17 months of detention in the North for taking down a political propaganda sign from a hotel.

Sentenced to hard labor early a year ago for stealing a political poster from a North Korean hotel, Warmbier was medically evacuated to the United States in a coma last week after almost 18 months in captivity. "Travel propaganda lures far too many people to North Korea". The front of the funeral program included a quote from Warmbier's 2013 graduation speech: "This is our season finale". He died less than a week after returning from North Korea.

"North Korea needs to be held accountable for what happened to Otto Warmbier", Portman says.

"It would be easy at a moment like this to focus on all that we lost - future time that won't be spent with a warm, engaging, brilliant young man whose curiosity and enthusiasm for life knew no bounds", Fred and Cindy Warmbier said in a statement.

Cynthia Meis, his college admissions counselor from high school, said she admires the strength displayed by Warmbier's parents in the face of such loss and the glare of global media attention.

Just two days earlier, his friends organized a vigil attended by hundreds at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Otto Warmbier coached Cain's son in swimming and "made a great impression on him", she said.

Doctors Update Scalise's Condition Week After Shooting
Scalise was shot in the hip when a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers practicing for a charity baseball game. He "is beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation", the hospital said in a statement Wednesday .

"Countries around the world and in the UN Security Council are joining in this effort and we hope China will do their part as well", he said, referring to the new round of sanctions that went into effect at the beginning of June. He was arrested for allegedly stealing a political sign from a restricted area and sentenced two months later to 15 years of hard labor.

The extent to which Beijing can influence Pyongyang is key in trying to defuse the North Korean crisis, and Tillerson's remarks came the day after US President Donald Trump appeared to suggest Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) had come up short in efforts to lean on North Korean leder Kim Jong-un's regime.

His treating physicians said he suffered from unresponsive wakefulness, a condition also known as persistent vegetative state.

North Korean officials told United States envoys Warmbier contracted botulism, a severe form of food poisoning, after his trial and lapsed into a coma after taking a sleeping pill.

"This pattern of brain injury is usually seen as result of cardiopulmonary arrest where blood supply to the brain is inadequate for a period of time, resulting in the death of brain tissue", Dr. Daniel Kanter said last week.

Portman said sanctions against North Korea should be tightened, WVXU reports. It only conducted an external examination. Officials at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was treated, declined to provide details, and Warmbier's family asked the Hamilton County Coroner on Tuesday not to perform an autopsy.

The exact cause of Warmbier's death is unclear.
