President Trump offered his "deepest" condolences to the family and condemned the "brutality" of the North Korean regime Monday. Warmbier's family said the Obama White House instructed them not to talk about Warmbier so as not to "upset the North Koreans".
Trump tweeted Tuesday, "While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out".
White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Tuesday offered few details about how the U.S. plans to respond to the death of Warmbier, promising only that the United States will "continue to apply economic and political pressure" to change North Korea's behavior.

Trump called the situation a "disgrace" and is now facing calls for the U.S. to respond to North Korea for its role in Warmbier's death.
