Boeing unveiled a new version of its bestselling 737 aircraft on Monday, injecting life into a faltering civil aviation market as French President Emmanuel Macron flew in to open the world's biggest air show in Paris.
That would mean the United order conversion would be worth about $12.5 billion before discounts that are customary for aircraft purchases. The MAX 8 and 9 will be followed in 2019 by the introduction of a smaller, long-range MAX 7 and a 200-seat 737 MAX 8. "It is getting a big endorsement from airlines and that is leading to more lessons endorsing it too", Ihssane Mounir, Boeing vice president of sales and marketing, told reporters. They compete with Airbus planes in the A320-neo family, aiming at a similar short- to mid-range market.
The Max 10 is the fifth member of Boeing's family of single-aisle aircraft and the third model launched in as many years. Customers are demanding lighter, more fuel-efficient planes that can carry more passengers for longer distances.
The CEO of Boeing's commercial planes operations, Kevin McAllister, said Monday the 737 MAX 10 will offer customers more flexibility and seating space.
While Airbus and Boeing dominate the world s civil aviation industry, the duopoly is not without challengers: Competition is looming, notably from Russian Federation and China, which have been test-flying their own mid-range models. "You have to have bigger aircraft".

It also won a boost from leasing giant AerCap for its 787 Dreamliner long-range jet, which sits in a category for which demand has been fragile over the past year.
"As a lessor, we are committed to provide our global customer base with technologically-advanced aircraft", said Ahmad Alzabin, chief executive officer and vice-chairman, Alafco. The new plane, according to CNN, will seat up to 230 passengers. Airbus says more than 1,400 such planes will be delivered, including cargo models. The plane is likely to be in service by 2020.
The F-35 fighter jets will also take part in their first-ever acrobatic display at the Paris Air Show this year.
It's been almost six years since the Dreamliner first went into service after a decade in development. For the wide-body segment, Boeing sees demand for 9,130 new airplanes mostly for replacements, starting in the next 10 years.
