"For one, the greatness of my round is the 63 in the last round of the U.S. Open to win by one", said Miller, now an analyst for the American TV network NBC.

Thomas fired nine birdies and an eagle on the 18th to card a nine-under-par 63 and take over the clubhouse lead on 11 under par, two shots clear of compatriots Brian Harman and Brendan Steele and England's Tommy Fleetwood.

World No.13 Justin Thomas feels ready to win a maiden major championship after shooting a record-setting 63 during a dramatic third round of the US Open at Erin Hills.

The 18th hole at Erin Hills has a special flag for the final round of the U.S. Open. Now, the former Alabama Crimson Tide golfer has broken the U.S. Open scoring record, with a scorching 9-under 63 at Erin Hills.

None of the leading 16 players have won a major before, making it likely that a run of six consecutive victories by first-timers will extend to seven this weekend. A double-bogey at the par-4 12th broke his momentum and three-putts for par at the drivable 15th was another setback, one compounded by one more dropped shot at the 16th.

"We had two other guys shoot in the 60s that day", Miller said. None of the top 18 has won a major, making it very likely this will be the seventh straight major to crown a first-time victor.

"If somebody shoots nine under tomorrow in the top few (as Thomas did on Saturday) then I'll have to shoot 10, I guess".

With that, Justin Thomas secured his place in golf's history books.

Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day - the top three players in the world, all of them professing expansive Erin Hills to be flawless for their games - spent Friday cleaning out their lockers after missing the cut.

Putin warns new sanctions will 'complicate' ties between Russian Federation and US
Paul's vote was unsurprising, as he'd also opposed yesterday's amendment on adding Russian Federation sanctions to the bill. If passed, the new Russian Federation provisions would make it more hard for Trump to relax sanctions against the country.

Rickie Fowler, who is two shots back, said after his round Saturday that he was hoping the wind would pick up to make the course tougher.

Thomas had 300 yards to the hole for his second shot at the 18th.

Fleetwood, who was hoping to become the third English victor since 1924 after Tony Jacklin (1970) and Justin Rose (2013), began the day in a tie for second and made an encouraging start with a birdie from eight feet on the second.

"I was teeing off and I looked up and saw it on fire, and I felt sick to my stomach", Jamie Lovemark said. "You know every year I played the U.S. Open everyone complained Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that his course is too hard".

The fifth-ranked player in the world hit a 4-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th for a 69 on Sunday. I've just got to keep going. Furyk was never seriously challenged in the final round, and he wound up winning by three shots and matching what was then the U.S. Open record at 272.

With the US Open weather looking like it could have winds of up to 16 miles per hour and with gusts of around 25mph - scoring should be a little trickier in the final round.

"I'm looking forward to my shot at it, I know it's not going to be an easy day, for sure", Fowler said.

In the end then, Leishman was all but trampled in the rush to the top of the leaderboard.
