Thomas shoots 63; breaks US Open record

"Some of the weaknesses and flaws that are in my game at the minute showed up over the last couple of days".

It seems not everybody was blown away by Justin Thomas' record-breaking display in the U.S. Open. It's the last category where Thomas would most like to repeat his grade tomorrow.

"I've never done this before", Fleetwood said.

What a day for Justin Thomas.

Thomas poured that in to become the 29th player with a 63 in a major championship. Vijay Singh was the last player to accomplish the feat in 2003 at Olympia Fields. The course played to a par of 71 that day, meaning Miller was 8-under.

Thomas shook off some nerves as he waited for the putt. I made a great up-and-down on two and I had two great shots for birdie.

Don't try this at home.

His round would have been better had it not been for two bogeys in his closing holes.

Casey swung and missed from the tall fescue on No. 3, and then chipped out and it rolled all the way off the green on the other side. "Maybe a reachable par 4, should be firmer and faster, barring any rain", he said. Harman, Koepka, Fleetwood and Paul Casey started the day as 36-hole co-leaders at 7 under. He shot a 3-over 75 and is 1 under for the tournament. Rickie Fowler accomplished the feat in the first round, and Hideki Matsuyama and Chez Reavie hit the number Thursday. That led to a double bogey, which hurt him as badly as making only one birdie. He missed a short birdie putt on 18.

Up to that point, Fleetwood pretty much couldn't find trouble if he tried.

Charley Hoffman is all by himself on top of the U.S. Open - for now.

Dredge, taking part in his first US Open, secured birdies on the 16th and 18th holes.

Dems bridle as some in GOP blame shooting on the left
Scalise and four others were shot Wednesday morning during a Republican practice for the annual congressional baseball game. The congressman underwent another surgery Saturday, and the hospital says he is more responsive and speaking with family.

Rory McIlroy hit back at suggestions he was "bored" with golf after missing the cut in the US Open for the second year in succession. He won his only PGA Tour event in the Phoenix Open, but along the way, he tied for fifth in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, and then tied for fourth in the PGA Championship previous year at Baltusrol. The next one went long, he chipped up to 12 feet and took two putts from there. Mickelson has won every major but the U.S. Open. He might be overshadowed in his final-round pairing by Captain America Patrick Reed, but he has the potential to go low and get into the thick of contention even though he's four behind Harman. He just has to listen to the crowd.

There's plenty of golf left to be played and Mother Nature will dictate what the course will tee up.

Oh, and how about this unbelievable Thomas birdie putt at the fifth!?!??! Thomas rolled in an 18-footer that went right to left from the edge of the green. The ball caught a slope and fell all the way down the ridge and into the cup.

Amateur Scottie Scheffler is playing with the poise of a veteran at the U.S. Open. The world No. 13 stuffed his 310-yard approach shot to within 8 feet on the par-5 that stretches well beyond 600 yards. Reavie moved to 4-under 140, three shots back of the lead on a bunched-up leaderboard. He has birdied three of his last four holes.

Back problems forced Danny Willett to pull out of another tournament.

Low scores were available.

The little lefty from Georgia has a chance to make a little history at Erin Hills. Not everyone can take advantage.

MELL: Not yet. We've got a final round to play, and a spectacular finish could completely change the way we remember this championship. "It's a tremendous honor to tie him [by shooting 63 in the U.S. Open]". That's more than Johnson can say this week. It's still Saturday, 36 holes is a very long time in a US Open.

Still to be determined was who made it to the weekend, and where the cut would fall. His best U.S. Open finish is a tie for 12 in 2015 at Chambers Bay.

The lead, however, belonged to Brian Harman.

But that's not all that makes the possibilities so limitless Saturday.

Five players were two shots off the lead. His 65 was 10 shots better than the second-round score he posted Friday.
