Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman took $100.5m (£78.09m) at the US/Canada box office this weekend - the biggest domestic debut for a female director. The film topped takings in most domestic box offices in its first weekend, and has also beaten out Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man and Man Of Steel.
The film stars Gal Gadot in the title role. With Wonder Woman setting the box office alight with a $100 million USA box office opening, talk has already turned to the now-inevitable sequel. Before "Wonder Woman", Jenkins' only feature was "Monster" - an Academy Award victor that she made more than a decade ago with an $8 million budget. The previous mark was Sam Taylor-Johnson's "Fifty Shades of Grey", with $85.1 million in 2015. "While the story was critically tough, she emerged as a real bright spot", Goldstein said.
The Gal Gadot-fronted superhero movie did especially well in the US.
Internationally, it opened day-and-date in 55 markets, including China, the UK, Russia, Italy, Korea, Mexico and Brazil, garnering a total of $122.5 million.
The director spoke to CinemaBlend and hinted that unlike other superhero movies which are set in the present, Wonder Woman will go back in time. It's given a much-needed boost to the DC Extended Universe, with reviews that are much better than those for 2016's disappointing "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad".
Oil slips as data points to fast-growing supply
Total non-Opec production in 2018, led by the USA , is set to rise by 1.5m b/d - or more than double the rate of growth this year. Brent crude was $48.27 per barrel last week , down $1.85, or 3.7 per cent, from its $50 per barrel price.
According to the numbers provided to IANS by the production banner behind "Baywatch", the film released in India on Friday in 948 screens, and its gross box office figure is Rs 10.1 crore.
The thing about this movie isn't just that we're finally getting a Wonder Woman film.
Rottentomatoes gave "Wonder Woman" a smooth 93% and I completely agree with the score.
Wonder Woman has earned an outstanding $122.5 million from 34,300 screens in 55 worldwide markets, with $9.3 million of that figure coming from 665 overseas IMAX screens. As of now, the movie has made a collection of Rs 32.5 million ($505,246), in two days.
