Accusations of obstruction arose last month when Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.
Mueller is interviewing as early as this week three top intelligence officials as part of the probe, the Post reported, citing "five people briefed on the requests". It's unclear who the president was referring to as "very bad and conflicted", though some Republicans have criticized Mueller for naming attorneys to his team who have given money to Democrats in the past.
NSA spokeswoman Vanee Vines told NPR's Phil Ewing, "NSA will fully cooperate with the special counsel".
When Knoller pressed further, asking why the president can tweet about the ongoing investigation, but she can't comment on said tweets, Sanders responded, "Because I'm not the president".
President Trump questioned why his relations with Russian Federation were being examined, while Hillary Clinton's are not, in a series of tweets posted less than a day after a report he is being investigated for attempted obstruction of justice. While Trump had not previously been under investigation for any wrongdoing, officials told the Post that changed soon after Comey's firing. After Comey's much-watched Senate testimony, the president said in a press conference that he would testify under oath regarding his interactions and conversations with the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.
Sessions, in response to Comey's testimony, sat down before the intelligence committee Tuesday, and while he largely deflected senators' questions about his conversations with the president over Comey's firing, he said the suggestion that he had colluded with Russian Federation at all was a "detestable lie".
Comey also said his friend, Columbia University professor Daniel Richman, returned his copy to the Federal Bureau of Investigation after leaking the memo on the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's behalf to The New York Times.
The leaders of the Senate Intelligence committee said in a statement issued Wednesday that they "look forward to future engagements" with Robert Mueller.
