Theresa May criticised for not meeting fire survivors on Grenfell Tower visit

London Police have launched an investigation to determine whether any crimes contributed to the blaze.

Using drones and sniffer dogs, firefighters continued Friday to search the burned-out hulk that looms over Notting Dale, a low-income community next to the super-affluent Notting Hill neighborhood in west London.

At least 17 people are dead with dozens more injured or missing after a devastating fire rapidly engulfed Grenfell Tower with little to no warning early Wednesday.

Police said it may not be possible to identify some of the bodies, while the list of those missing based on accounts of friends and survivors reached around 80 people, including the 30 confirmed dead.

The royal visitors are expected to meet volunteers, local residents and community representatives while visiting Westway Sports Centre, near the charred remains of the building in west London. Mrs May has ordered a full public inquiry into the disaster in response to mounting anger that the fire might have been preventable.

Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy said there was "a risk that sadly we may not be able to identify everybody".

Authorities say 24 people remain in hospital, 12 of whom are in critical care.

"We always knew that the death toll would increase", Cundy said, adding that there was nothing to suggest that the fire at the Grenfell Tower was started deliberately.

The latest police update came as a second victim of the disaster was named as 24-year-old artist Khadija Saye. "I will help you from up there".

Syrian refugee Mohammed Alhajali, 23, was also killed in the fire. They lived on the 22nd floor.

Omar, 25, survived, but the brothers were separated as firemen tried to rescue them from burning building early Wednesday.

Officials expressed little hope of finding survivors.

Residents had complained about safety for several years.

The group's blog post argued that only "a catastrophic event will expose the ineptitude and incompetence of our landlord. and bring an end to the risky living conditions and neglect of health and safety legislation that they inflict upon their tenants and leaseholders".

Overnight, 109 families made homeless from the blaze were housed at hotels in west London.

Ana Ospina posted an image of Jessica Urbano, 12, said to be about 5ft tall, on Facebook, saying: "Please continue to share the photo of my niece who has not yet found her".

This particular building material is also widespread in Australia, used in "thousands" of high-rise apartments and other buildings, Stephen Kip, an adjunct professor at Victoria University told The Guardian. In that case, exterior paneling helped the fire spread.

Jim Fitzpatrick, an MP with the main opposition Labour Party, slammed the Conservative-led government for shuffling its feet on the review.

"Following the Lakanal House fire, the coroner recommended the guidance relating to fire safety within the building regulations (be) simplified", it said in a statement.
