The Post reported that Mueller "is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice", and "investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates".

US Vice-President Mike Pence has hired a lawyer known for defending government officials in high-profile investigations to help him with probes into whether there were ties between the election campaign of President Donald Trump and Russian Federation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions captivated Washington Tuesday, beating back rumors of a private meeting with Russia's ambassador to the United States and mounting a defense for President Donald Trump, one week after former FBI Director James Comey artfully unloaded on both men.

Former FBI director James Comey testified last week that soon after he was sacked in mid-May, he asked a friend to share the contents of a memo in which he described a conversation with President Trump that Comey had found troubling.

Asked about Trump's own contention that the president fired Comey with the Russian Federation probe in mind, and regardless of any recommendation from anyone else, Sessions said: "I guess I'll just have to let his words speak for themselves". National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers and Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, both declined to discuss their own Trump communications during a hearing last week.

"The Post report cites anonymous sources who were briefed on requests made by investigators".

But in a statement issued shortly after the Post report, a spokesman for Kasowitz, Mark Corallo, said: "The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

He wrote in multiple social media posts that he views Mueller - a long-serving former Federal Bureau of Investigation director respected by both parties - as leading a biased probe with the singular aim of dislodging Trump.

Sessions testified Tuesday that he recused himself from the current Russian Federation investigation only because of a regulation that required it because of his involvement in the Trump campaign.

Michigan-based Key, owned by Chinese supplier Ningbo Joyson, was chosen earlier this year as the favored buyer for Takata . The problem is now blamed for at least 16 deaths - most of those in the United States - as well as more than 180 injuries.

Officials said one of the exchanges of potential interest to Mueller took place on March 22, less than a week after Coats was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the nation's top intelligence official.

Several U.S. congressional committees are also looking into the question of Russian election interference and possible Trump campaign collusion.

Sessions said it would be "absurd" to suggest that a recusal from a single investigation would render him unable to manage the leadership of the FBI.

Trump on Thursday lashed out at the investigators driving the Russian Federation investigation as "very bad and conflicted people", responding angrily to reports that the special counsel is looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.

Trump took to his Twitter account Thursday morning to denounce the report.

Ms sanders also said says the president was pleased with attorney general Jeff Sessions' evidence to Congress on Tuesday. On Monday, a Trump friend said the president was considering dismissing Mueller although the White House said later he had no plans to do so.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions heatedly denied on Tuesday having an undisclosed meeting with Russia's ambassador to the USA or conversations with any Russian officials about the US election that sent Donald Trump to the White House. "I was sacked, in some way, to change - or the endeavor was to change the way the Russian Federation investigation was being conducted".

In January, the US intelligence community issued an assessment that Putin "ordered an influence campaign" aimed at the USA presidential election, with goals including undermining faith in the USA democratic system, denigrating Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton, and improving Trump's chances of winning the presidency.
