Nothing goes right for Wawrinka in French Open loss to Nadal

And I miss playing well at Wimbledon.

Key Stat: This was the one that broke Borg's record of six French Open titles.

"I had too many problems on my knee, so I was not able to practice at all".

Nothing could extinguish Nadal's fire though and he surged two breaks ahead in the third set despite the best efforts of Wawrinka to try and extend the contest.

His clay-court prowess as unassailable as ever, Rafael Nadal won his record 10th French Open title by dominating 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in the final Sunday.

A worn out Wawrinka put up a valiant fight-the Swiss beat Andy Murray in a match that lasted more than four-and-a-half hours in the semi-finals-but there is likely no player in the world who could have bettered the Spanish clay-court master in peak form on Sunday.

He's already leading the Race To London, having won four events to date, and his form at the French Open suggests that Nadal is back to his very best.

On Sunday, he will be playing in his 22nd Grand Slam final.

Nadal lost only 35 games across seven matches.

It is hard to envisage how any of his rivals will be able to prise the famous trophy away from him if the 31-year-old can stay fully fit and maintain the incredibly high standards he has set on the red stuff this year.

"Nine here is probably hard".

Maybe Game 4 was as good as it gets against a defensive team as good as the Warriors . "But we'll go back and tee it up again". The bottom line is that Cleveland has gotten these Finals to 3-1, a familiar situation that must give them a little comfort.

Afterward, Nadal said about Djokovic: "He deserves to win this tournament". It is hard to compare this tournament to any other one.

That may sound like a lot, but considering the new world No. 2 didn't play a single grass-court event a year ago and the Brit won both Queen's and Wimbledon, it's actually very tight.

"He puts this doubt in your head when you play against him", said Wawrinka, who had been 3-0 in Grand Slam finals, including a victory over Nadal at the 2014 Australian Open.

It took the fourth-seeded Nadal just over two hours to win 6-2, 6-3, 6-1, with the Spaniard sealing it on his second match point when Wawrinka sliced a backhand volley into the net.

But Nadal said revenge for that defeat has never entered his thinking. "I won all the matches with unbelievable results".

The men's final at the French Open is underway.

That's for sure. But I will need few days to really see that, because it's tough to describe the feeling of losing a Grand Slam final.' He also spoke more detailled about Nadal and said: 'That's something tough to describe when you just say you won 10 French Open.

Michael Venus became New Zealand's first Grand Slam champion since 1974 on Saturday when he partnered American Ryan Harrison to the men's doubles title.

It was not, however, in the cards Sunday for Wawrinka. "You were too good". I don't know if I will ever get to meet the player who will do better than I did.

"From the beginning from my side, I didn't play my best tennis", Wawinka said.

So, we'll see him next year for the 11th?
