Theresa May was hoping for a landslide but in the early hours of Friday she was confronted with the chaotic prospect of a hung parliament - or a small Tory majority at best - after the first projected United Kingdom election result.
The pair formed part of May's small inner circle and were blamed by many Conservatives for the party's lackluster campaign and unpopular election platform.
Davidson told the BBC: "I was fairly straightforward with her [Theresa May] and I told her that there were a number of things that count to me more than the party".
Prime Minister Theresa May scrambled for an alliance with the DUP after a shocking night at the polls, with Conservatives losing a total of 12 key seats.
The Conservative Party has depended on Irish politicians before: Prime Minister John Major relied on support from the Ulster Unionist Party to shore up his tiny majority in 1992-1997.
"This is flawless territory for the DUP obviously because if the Conservatives are just short of an overall majority, it puts us in a very, very strong negotiating position", DUP lawmaker Jeffrey Donaldson told the BBC.
She referred to the "strong relationship" she had with the DUP, but gave little detail of how their arrangement might work. Scottish Labour and the Liberal Democrats returned seven and four MPs respectively, with the SNP winning 35 - a drop of 21 from the 56 the party won two years ago.
THERESA May was spotted out shopping today as she despatched her Chief Whip to Belfast to hammer out a deal with the DUP and help form a Government.
Getting Swept by the Warriors Will Have No Impact on LeBron's Legacy
Klay Thompson added 30 points and Stephen Curry had 26 for the Warriors, who are one win from a second title in three years. Lest we forget, this the same Kyrie that torched a fully healthy Spurs for 57 points in the 2014-15 regular season.
The DUP is a far-right and homophobic party in Northern Ireland, who vetoed several votes for same-sex marriage.
Northern Ireland is the only remaining country in the United Kingdom where same-sex marriage is illegal, due to the DUP using a veto to block any legislation trying to change legislation.
The shocking election result has caused great embarrassment to Mrs May, who called a snap election in April believing she could wipe out her opposition and gain greater control in the House of Commons.
The party leader, Foster, is pro-Brexit but against a "hard Brexit".
"I've never seen people more hateful in my life", he said.
"I fear they will seek the totemic concessions on things like parading and the military covenant rather than acting in the wider interest", she said. The party's manifesto architect, Ben Gummer, lost his seat to Labour. "We do not take your support for granted and we make you all a simple promise to do everything we can to reward the trust you have placed in this Party".
Instead, the result has sown confusion and division in British ranks, just days before negotiations are due to start on June 19.
