Iranian police say they have arrested several suspects in their investigation into the attacks on parliament and the tomb of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the 1979 revolution against the US -backed shah and is considered the founder of the Islamic republic.
"The terrorists were affiliated to the Wahabi and Takfiri groups who joined the Daesh terrorist group overseas and were red handed in the crimes of the terrorist group in Mosul, Iraq and Raqqah in Syria", Commander of the Law Enforcement Force Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari said. The statement concludes: "We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote". Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, speaking in Germany, said he did not know who was responsible and that "we condemn terrorist attacks anywhere they occur", the New York Times reported.
The ISIS group that had claimed the Tehran deadly attacks published a video of five gunmen that appear threatening Iranians of a "slaughter" campaign to be waged by the soldiers of the "Islamic State".
Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards have also said regional rival Saudi Arabia was involved, fueling tensions between Sunni Muslim power Riyadh and Shi'ite power Tehran as they vie for influence in the Gulf.
Speaking at an open session of the parliament on Sunday, Larijani pointed to the US Senate's move to vote to proceed with a bill that would sanction Iran just hours after the Iranian capital suffered terrorist attacks, saying the US strategy is to undermine the country through targeting elements of its "dignity".
Soon after the attacks when Iran blamed Saudi Arabia for it, the Sunni nation denied doing so.
Tehran police said the auto the attackers used for both attacks was discovered on Saturday in the city center.

Meanwhile, Iran's Police chief Hussein Ashtari has announced that a group of some 60 suspects has also been detained near Tehran in relation to the terrorist attacks.
Referring to recent remarks by Saudi Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Zarif said, "Terror-sponsoring despots threaten to bring the fight to our homeland [Iran]".
The statement said Saudi Arabia "constantly supports" terrorists including ISIL, adding that the extremist group's claim of responsibility "reveals [Saudi Arabia's] hand in this barbaric action". "How can four armed men enter the parliament, where a very tight security has always been in place", a senior official, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.
The United States and several allies in the Middle East have been fighting against the Islamic State.
Previously, ISIS has carried out multiple attacks in Saudi Arabia.
It suggested there were only five attackers rather than the six originally reported.
