Theresa May is confirming her new top team in a reshuffle after an election that saw some ministers lose their seats and her party lose its majority.

Damian Green has been appointed first secretary of state in the reshuffle, essentially making him second-in-command to the PM.

The former Chief Secretary to the Treasury David Gauke also got a promotion as he was made Works and Pensions Secretary.

The former justice secretary was sacked by Mrs May in one of her first acts as Prime Minister after he effectively scuppered the Tory leadership hopes of Boris Johnson - his fellow Vote Leave campaigner - by withdrawing his support and announcing his own candidacy.

Mr Green, who was previously work and pensions secretary, takes the title generally associated with the role of deputy prime minister.

Another report said authorities identified militants from Pakistan, Turkey, Morocco and India. As of Saturday, 120 Maute members and 38 soldiers were killed in Marawi , the military said.

Justine Greening also keeps her job as Education Secretary, No10 said, despite differences with Mrs May over the Prime Minister's flagship policy to expand the number of grammar schools in England.

Liz Truss's change of position will be seen by some as a demotion - she was widely criticised by the judiciary following the High Court ruling regarding the government seeking Parliament's permission to trigger Article 50 and begin the formal start of the Brexit process.

The decision to keep her in the Government will be seen as an indication of Mrs May's weakness following the loss of her Commons majority in the General Election.

While Green has been moved, Greg Clark has been confirmed as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Jeremy Wright carries on as Attorney General and Brandon Lewis remains a Home Office minister although he will in future attend Cabinet.
