Barring a few fielding lapses, India produced an extremely professional performance to thump arch-rivals Pakistan and kick-off their Champions Trophy title defence on a brilliant note.

The final over off left-arm spinner Imad Wasim resulted in 23 runs as Hardik Pandya (20 not out from six balls) smashed sixes off the first three deliveries to push his side to 319. "In the field we were still a 6 today", Kohli said. All the Indian batsmen starred, with Rohit Sharma (91 off 119), Shikhar Dhawan (68 off 65), Kohli (81 not out off 68) and Yuvraj (53 off 32) rising to the occasion in a rain-hit game, to propel India to 319/3 in 48 overs.

Skipper Virat Kohli delivered his verdict on India in the wake of their 124-run victory over Pakistan, in a rain-affected ICC Champions Trophy match at Edgbaston.

"I think till 40 I was easing into the game, taking my ones and twos like I always do", Kohli said.

"India started as the favourite and played the entire game in the same frame of mind, even as Pakistan crumbled limply".

"We took the momentum we had from the practice games into this match".
