During more than two hours of testimony, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee he believed Trump had directed him to drop an FBI probe into the Republican president's former national security adviser Michael Flynn as part of the broader Russian Federation investigation.
Comey said at the hearing that he interpreted comments made by Trump to him as a directive to shut down the FBI's investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
Trump wrote earlier on Friday on Twitter that the former FBI head had vindicated him by telling the Senate Intelligence Committee that the president had not been personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe.
On the witness's claim that Mr Trump asked him over dinner for his loyalty, Mr Kasowitz said: "The President never told Mr Comey 'I need loyalty, I expect loyalty, ' in form or substance". Mr. Comey explained that "I took it as a direction to get rid of this investigation". In his testimony, Comey said that after he was sacked and Trump's May 12 tweet, he gave the memos to Richman with the intent that they be leaked to the media.
The president responded to Comey's testimony in an early morning tweet Friday.
During his testimony, Comey also revealed that he had leaked memos regarding his interactions with Trump to "a good friend" at Columbia Law School.
In one heated exchange with ABC News' Jonathan Karl - whom he called on after asking whether to choose "one of the killer networks that treat me so badly" - Trump denied various points of Comey's testimony.
"Well, I'll tell you about that - maybe sometime in the very near future", Mr Trump said.
Hung parliament would be a blow to Brexit negotiations
He went on: "We face some appalling difficulties in my opinion, this is a critical stage for us - politics is changing". Which will be about whether they want a hard or a soft Brexit."Mr Brok, 71, added: "It's a bad result for the UK".
In a subsequent tweet, Trump congratulated friendly conservative media.
During nearly three hours of statements Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior in several of their meetings.
"From the first time I was alone with the president elect, I was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting".
Comey also said that the Trump had lied in trying to undermine him and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and that he was had been highly uncomfortable with some of the interactions he had had with Trump.
The president tweeted Friday: "Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication...and WOW, Comey is a leaker!"
Trump: Well, I didn't say that.
Comey said Trump claimed that "the cloud" was getting in the way of his ability to do his job.
During a news conference Friday, Trump said he'd have more information related to whether tapes exist at a later date.
