She wanted, for example, an end to the automatic right of EU nationals to settle in the U.K. She wanted total control over U.K. trade while maintaining full access to the EU single market, while massively reducing or even eliminating the U.K.'s budget contribution to EU coffers.

May's majority in parliament until the snap election was only held by 17 seats, but now she is at a considerable disadvantage.

It's unclear what Theresa May's next move will be, but pundits are suggesting she will likely strike a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party, who now hold 10 seats.

By 9:40 a.m. London time, May's ruling Conservative party had won 317 seats while the opposition Labour Party, led by Jeremy Corbyn, had 261 seats. Meanwhile, the Labour Party surged, winning 29 seats in areas where the party's lukewarm support for the Brexit played well.

Despite Tory ministers calling on her to step down Mrs May vowed to stand for the next five years.

"Although I'm in my final year, I think it's important for education to be more accessible to people who may not have the financial support to go to university".

He also said the attackers were armed with AK-47s and hand grenades and wore what appeared to be explosive vests. President Donald Trump in a statement suggested that Iran bears some culpability for attacks in its capital.

Meanwhile, Nigel Farage, the former U.K. Independence Party (UKIP) leader, has also called for her resignation.

As the results piled up, some form of minority or coalition government appeared increasingly likely. Farage has also indicated that he would feel forced to launch a political comeback if Brexit was under threat.

Britain's best-selling Sun newspaper said senior members of her party had vowed to get rid of May, but would wait at least six months because they were anxious that a leadership contest now could propel Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn into power. May made the same bet, or mistake, as her predecessor David Cameron did when he called a referendum on Brexit. However, with May traveling to Buckingham Palace on Friday an immediate leadership challenge looks unlikely.

If May continues at the head of a minority government, she will not be able to pursue the same version in Brexit talks. She has been found out.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will meet Queen Elizabeth II on Friday and seek permission to form a new government, according to a spokesman.

"There is a risk of Euroskeptics gaining more influence".

But in United Kingdom elections this result does not automatically trigger another election.
