Mets to bring back Cespedes for Saturday's doubleheader

Mets manager Terry Collins said Cespedes is "expected" to be activated from the disabled list to serve as the 26th man on Saturday, via James Wagner of the New York Times. He played Thursday and was 0-for-4 while playing left field for St. Lucie.

Don't look now: The 25-32 Mets are about to embark on an immensely rough stretch of their schedule that could decide the course of their season.

"You can only play three, but right now as you can imagine, we're be a little careful with Ces and work him back in there".

The Mets have essentially fallen apart since the injury to Syndergaard.

Cespedes is batting third and playing in the outfield for St. Lucie on Thursday after a almost two-week delay in his rehab assignment.

Bad start but Conte livid with referee
The newly-crowned Premier League champions were lucky to go into the break just one behind as the Gunners squandered a numerous chances.

Yoenis Cespedes was on a plane to rejoin the team Friday evening. Figuring out how to use Bruce, Cespedes, Conforto, and Granderson is where it can get a bit tricky. For future New York Mets rumors to stay away from the team becoming "sellers" at the Major League Baseball trade deadline, Cespedes is going to have to get healthy and return to form. Then again (again), Granderson has hit.270/.378/.540 with 10 doubles and five home runs over the last month, so it's not like he's been bad all season. It's possible that the franchise is anxious about going through a repeat of the previous situation, where Cespedes went out on a rehab assignment and suffered a setback to his timetable.

Cespedes finally got back into a rehab game Thursday night, which apparently the Mets needed to see him get through before they would activate him.

"The fact that he came out of the game fine, no issues", Collins said was the last hurdle.

"He accumulated a lot of at-bats even though he hadn't been in games", Collins said. However, upon returning from an extended stint on the sideline, Cespedes will initially serve as the club's 26th player for their looming doubleheader against the rival Atlanta Braves. All indications are that he's at 100 percent, but the Mets still plan to ease him in slowly.
