Apple has unveiled a smart speaker to rival the Amazon Echo and Google Home as the tech giant said it wanted to "reinvent home music".
During Apple's keynote address Monday, CEO Tim Cook sure sounded upbeat in talking about the Amazon Video app that's finally coming to the Apple TV.
"You can be across the room and speak to the HomePod even while loud music is playing", Apple's Phil Schiller said during the introduction presentation. Amazon sells the main version of the Echo for $180; Google's Home speaker goes for $130. However, Apple is planning to delay the Siri speaker, and its availability may end in 2017. Control what? Music, of course, and Apple assumes that you'll have an Apple Music subscription. Later Apple will release the developed version.
HomePod users may initially be constrained by Siri's lack of capabilities as compared to Alexa, which also boasts the ability to order millions of Amazon products as well as food from restaurants like Domino's.

The A8 means the HomePod will be able to better predict when it hears its name and be able to perform real-time acoustic modeling that will shape the sound to fit the room it's in.
The HomePod's built-in Wi-Fi supports all recent standards, all the way up to 802.11 ac.
That is a seriously big ask for a mono speaker with unproven smart skills.
