British police named the third of the jihadis who killed seven people in a knife and van attack in London as Youssef Zaghba, 22, believed to be an Italian national of Moroccan descent.

The Italian reports said Zaghba was intercepted at the Bologna airport a year ago as he was about to board a plane for Turkey, apparently with the intention of joining Islamic State militants in Syria.

The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera said in a report that the Italian intelligence services reported Youssef's movements to their British counterparts.

The body of 45-year-old Xavier Thomas was pulled from the Thames on Tuesday, downstream from the London Bridge, pushing the death toll from Saturday's terrorist attack to eight, authorities said.

Police had named the other two attackers as Khuram Butt, 27, a British national born in Pakistan, and Rachid Redouane, 30, who had claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said questions would need to be asked about what the police knew about Butt.

People look at a floral tribute near London Bridge, London, on Wednesday, commemorating the victims of Saturday's attack. Twelve people held in the initial stages were released without charge earlier this week, while a man arrested in Ilford on Wednesday has been bailed.

Authorities have said the London attack was apparently unconnected to the Manchester bombing.

Three suspects were shot and killed as police responded to the attack.

The assistant commissioner admitted Butt had been categorised as not posing a risk of attack two years ago.

'A small number of the highest priority investigations involve current attack planning, and these investigations command a significant proportion of our resource, ' police said.

"A large part of the outer cordon of the crime scene in place following the terrorist attack in London Bridge has now been reopened", police said.

In the Saturday night rampage, the attackers first drove a rented van into a crowd and then jumped out and randomly stabbed people they encountered. They worked in the same restaurant: Kentucky Fried Chicken in London's East Ham area.
