Stan Wawrinka has advanced to the finals of the 2017 French Open, winning a five-set thriller over Stan Wawrinka in the semifinals on Friday, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-1.

Murray entered the semis beating Kei Nishikori 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7/0), 6-1 while Wawrinka knocked out Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Murray has needed the best part of 14 hours playing time while Wawrinka has been in action for nearly 11 hours and Thiem just under 10. He's won the previous three: at Roland Garros two years ago, the U.S. Open last September and the Australian Open in 2014. "I know that mentally, when I'm there, it's hard to beat me".

Two more victories, however, starting with his semi-final against 2015 victor Stan Wawrinka, would make him the first Briton to lift the men's trophy since Fred Perry 82 years ago. I think when things aren't going well, it's very easy to overthink things. "The result was all the more remarkable given the Austrian won just a single game the last time they met at the Italian Open in Rome three weeks ago".The last French player in the tournament, 28th-seeded Caroline Garcia, is facing No. 2 Karolina Pliskova on Court Philippe Chatrier.Thiem dominated Djokovic throughout the contest, taking on Djokovic at his own game. The other semifinal will also be played on Thursday, featuring fourth seed Rafael Nadal and sixth seed Dominic Thiem.

Then, in what was expected to be a third-round ambush, he sailed past Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets and was similarly at ease against Karen Khachanov in the last 16.

The Swiss must have been fuming but he weathered a Murray purple patch at the start of the fourth and finished the set back on top.

Exports of goods and services account for about 27 per cent of the British economy, with nearly half of exports going to the EU. Now that it made a decision to jump ship, it seems it can't get its act together to actually leave.

"He was pushing me all the time, so was tough for me to find any solution", recalled the 32-year-old Wawrinka, the oldest man to reach the semifinals in Paris since Jimmy Connors in 1985.

The women's final will be Halep vs. Ostapenko.

Wawrinka raced into a 3-0 lead in the third before Murray halted a seven-game losing streak and retrieved the break in the fifth game.

An astonishing triple break took him to 5-0 and although Murray clawed one back, the marathon battle - the longest of the tournament - had taken its toll.

But he could not serve it out as Murray again showed off his remarkable defence abilities. Some of the best tennis we have ever seen him play was in the latter rounds of this tournament when he lifted the trophy two years ago. Actually, Wawrinka did hit 23 unforced errors, but he also had 22 winners, both numbers more than Murray.

A further break apiece followed before Murray, with his trademark defensive skills in overdrive, edged back in front for 6-5 followed by the set-clinching hold.

Wawrinka, Nadal and Murray in the semi-finals means it is only the third time that three men over the age of 30 years have made it to this stage. Despite winning the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Murray has not been playing the sort of tennis we are used to seeing.
