The major diplomatic rift - caused by the abrupt decision by several Arab countries to cut ties with Qatar after they accused its government of supporting terrorism - has been called baseless by Qatar's leaders.
With Trump offering to help resolve the crisis, possibly with a meeting at the White House, the United Arab Emirates cut postal ties to Qatar, and close Saudi ally Bahrain reiterated a demand that Doha distance itself from regional foe Iran.

Responding to questions from lawmakers on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said he expected Gulf Arab states to overcome the crisis given the "strong relations and blood ties" between them.
