"Americans actively interfere with electoral campaigns of other countries" - Putin

Before announcing her exit from Fox in January, Kelly said her dream job would be "a little Charlie Rose, a little Oprah, and a little me".

Megyn Kelly made her much-ballyhooed debut on NBC Sunday, though she didn't exactly live up to the title of her new magazine show that went up against 60 Minutes. Putin responded that the intelligence community have been "misled," and that hackers have been trying to cover their tracks by implicating the Russians.

The Russian leader, a former KGB intelligence officer, is not given to unguarded moments or admissions of guilt.

He then suggested that perhaps American hackers are to blame and found a way to divert the blame onto Russian Federation, pointing to a conspiracy theory about President John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963 to support his own idea. "I haven't seen even once any proof of Russian interference in the presidential election in the United States". "You know, you're just very resourceful people there, well done, probably your lives there are boring", Putin said.

He said "no proposal" ever came to him from son-in-law Jared Kushner for a secret back channel communication.

PUTIN: I don't know about this proposal.

"It's just that French journalists asked me about those hackers".

He accused the media of sensationalising information and using it as "a weapon of war" against Mr Trump.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has played down his relationship with former USA national security adviser Michael Flynn, saying that he "didn't even really talk to him". Flynn gave a speech at the event - and was paid a $45,000 speaking fee.

PUTIN: I didn't even really talk to him.

"That sums up my entire acquaintance with Mr. Flynn", he concluded.

Putin was equally abrasive when Kelly asked if his government had compromising information on President Trump, referring to an alleged dossier that was collected prior to the election. Putin, slouched over in his seat, scoffed at the idea. "We have a lot of Americans who visit us". Do you think, an ambassador from any place in the world or from the USA reports to me daily as to whom he meets with and what they discuss?

"Have you all lost your senses over there?"

Mr Flynn has declined to testify to the US Senate Intelligence Committee about his Russian ties, invoking his constitutional right to avoid self-incrimination.

Before the other stories - one was about a drug company whistle-blower while the other focused on the plight of African elephants - Kelly began the hour with her highly publicized interview with Putin. Why do you feel you have the right to ask us these questions?.

"In addition to it, Putin voiced his profound conviction that "(...) no interference from the outside, in any country, even a small one, let alone in such a vast and great power as the United States, can influence the final outcome of the elections".
