On the exterior, the TLX A-Spec features a hand-crafted carbon-fiber splitter and standoff rear wing while the interior has been entirely stripped of its luxury appointments to reduce weight. Last year Acura teased the idea of an electric NSX with the NSX EV concept that climbed Pikes Peak.
On June 25, dozens upon dozens of huge wings with engines attached to them will set off to conquer one of the country's most famous mountains at the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
This is the sixth consecutive year that Acura is competing in Pikes Peak.
James Comey, Under Oath, Admits to Leaking Trump/Flynn Memos Himself
So did Comey violate any law or privilege by releasing the memo recounting his conversations with Trump? "I don't know . He described his response as a "slightly cowardly way" of telling Trump he would not drop the investigation.
The current generation NSX has already taken a big step into the world of electrification thanks to its fabulously complex hybrid system, but the next Honda supercar is set to go even further. Like the other hill-climb cars, the GT's twin-turbo V-6 has been remapped to handle elevation changes.
A TLX GT will also compete in the race with a new suspension and software mapping as well as an updated transmission allowing for faster acceleration out of the hill's turns. Last year, Robinson piloted the 2017 NSX to victory in the Time Attack 2 Production class. Honda has never confirmed the driving range of the all-electric NSX race vehicle, especially since it was made to compete at Pikes Peak, but insiders say it's capable of driving around 200 miles at modest speeds. Aerodynamic modifications include the addition of front fender louvres and revised dive planes. Acura is also the official pace-car sponsor for the event and will run production-spec TLX A-Spec models to lead the pack. Doing the driving will be Honda R&D engineer James Robinson. It, too, has some modifications to cope with Pikes Peak, specifically the thin air close to the 14,115-foot summit.
Finally, the NSX Acura is planning for Pikes Peak this year is inspired by the NSX GT3 race auto competing in the United SportsCar Championship. A veteran of Pikes Peak, James has competed since 2011, driving a first-generation NSX in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb from 2012 to 2015 and winning the Exhibition class in 2011.
