Authorities say a young girl has died after being pulled from Lake Michigan on Chicago's North Side. Paramedics reportedly arrived on the scene just a few minutes after she went under the water, but high winds made it hard for searchers to find her, and she was found about 45 minutes later, fire officials told the Tribune.

Langford said the girl appeared to be between 11 and 13 years old. Her condition wasn't immediately available.

Twenty minutes later, the Fire Department said searchers had found a female and were performing CPR. She later was pronounced dead, according to Langford. Then he jumped in to find her.

It's not clear if she was at a city beach. He said the water was "cold enough to shock you" if you were not used to it.

"I feel really bad about it, actually".

She was found in 12-15 feet of water, and the water temperature at the time was 54 degrees.
