North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un inspected a military unit that was responsible for bombarding a southern island, state media said on Friday ahead of a presidential election in the South. Pyongyang fired a barrage of 170 artillery shells onto Yeonpyeong island in November 2010, killing four people including two civilians in the first North Korean attack on a civilian area since the 1950-53 Korean War.
Two members of the South Korean military were killed, along with two 60-year-old constructions workers.
North Korea has a history of bombastic propaganda featuring unfounded claims.
North Korea held a large military parade in Pyongyang on April 15, but KCNA reported contacts between Kim and the South Korean agents as late as April 20.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry fired back that it had handled relations with Pyongyang from a "fair perspective", while Chinese media claims of North Korea's nuclear program as a violation of its mutual aid agreement with China showed the war of words between the two sides escalating to potentially risky levels.
"This is money that Kim Jong Un uses to advance his nuclear and missile program and also pay his generals, buying their loyalty to his brutal regime", he said.

China's foreign ministry has asked for all sides to exercise restraint and to avoid taking measures which could make the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula worse.

"China had better ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by its reckless act of chopping down the pillar of the DPRK-China relations". KCNA printed personal commentaries criticizing China on April 21 and February 23. Previously it has couched such criticism by referring to China only as "a neighboring country".
