Mourinho: I'm happy for Arsenal fans, no crying this time

Over the years, the Arsenal boss has frequently been insulted by his great rival, who famously once called him a "voyeur" and "a specialist in failure".

Mourinho said their cramped schedule, which includes a possible two further Europa League fixtures, meant United must win the tournament to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Manchester United may well have lost to Arsenal on Sunday, but Jose Mourinho still couldn't stop himself from having a cheeky dig at the Gunners after the game. "I left Highbury and they were crying, I left The Emirates and they were crying".

"Today (Sunday) they leave waving their scarves".

Asked about Arsenal finally tasting victory against him, Mourinho said: "It's a big club".

"I left Highbury, they were crying, I left Emirates, they were crying".

With four games remaining, Arsenal could yet squeeze into the top four and play in the Champions League for a 20th straight season.

Handshakes were duly exchanged by the pair before and after the game, so perhaps future meetings will be less rancorous.

Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and are facing an uphill battle to secure a top-four finish.

"It's not like I played my first football match in England".

"We want to try to win the Europa League". Scott McTominay, a 20-year-old midfielder, came on as a second-half substitute for his first-team debut while Paul Pogba - the world's most expensive player - didn't even come off the bench.

"I think he did an awesome job and I think Alexis (Sanchez) knows his name because the kid has played really well and other players were trying to do everything", he said. "And because we go with everything on Thursday and can not go with everything at Tottenham".

But Xhaka remains hopeful of Arsenal crashing the top-four party and admitted he will be looking to build upon his first season in the Premier League.

"We've dropped points where we shouldn't have done", he said. Manchester City also claimed three points with a 5-0 demolition of Crystal Palace. We had much better opportunities to score and we didn't score.

Reasonable, informed debate. There's no right or wrong answer when you look at Man Utd's odd season, but this is about as close as you will get to finding one.

Mourinho said: "I don't think we have any chance of finishing top four in the Premier League".
