Gillibrand urges Senate GOP to reject 'cruel' health care plan

Obamacare may not be gone as quickly as some might believe, even after Republicans in the House of Representatives rushed to pass their health care plan last week before the Congressional Budget Office had a chance to evaluate its costs and impact on Americans.

"Congress can not promise to fix the American health care system and stick the bill on local governments".

Democrats also targeted Republican governors in Democratic-leaning states, including Maryland's Larry Hogan, who did not take a public position before the House vote. While this sounds wonderfully compassionate, it goes completely against everything that makes the economics of insurance work - which is why it's been one of the leading drivers of soaring premiums since ObamaCare took effect.

America has the only healthcare system in the world created to avoid sick people. But opponents argue it effectively does that by letting insurers impose higher prices on some people with pre-existing illnesses and who let their coverage lapse.

People with employer-provided health insurance actually saw their costs stabilize.

A high-risk pool would cost the taxpayers some money.

THE FACTS: One of the bigger changes to health care under the Republican plan is that it would allow insurers to consider the health risk of customers applying for new coverage if they had a recent gap in coverage. Not only would this be fairer, but it would also be far more efficient, because money wouldn't be spent marketing and advertising to attract healthy people and avoid sick people.

Next month, Democrats and Republicans face a showdown over a House seat in the Atlanta suburbs. All of these lies have been proven wrong.

GREENFIELD: Well, this is where if you're trying to measure (ph) where the Republicans stand (ph), you - like they say in the ballpark, you can't tell the players without a scorecard. Wrong again. Whatever is wrong with the Affordable Care Act could be easily fixed, but Republicans have refused to do the fixing.

This debate is about Taryn, who, after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, suddenly had her plan canceled when her insurer pulled out of the market.

The reason Republicans are so intent on repealing the Affordable Care Act is they want to give a giant tax cut to the rich who'd no longer have to pay the tab.

If patriotism means anything, it means sacrificing for the common good, participating in the public good. And then you're throwing insult to injury by giving a $575 billion tax cut to the wealthiest Americans while you're cutting $880 billion of service to the poorest Americans.

"I can't work anymore". Americans with secure jobs pay into unemployment insurance so those who lose their jobs have some income until they find another. As it turns out, this could hurt more folks than just the poor. The disconnect was palpable, but the anti-Obamacare sloganeering served Republicans and Trump well.

Why shouldn't Republicans believe they can convince those same voters that the awful things that will happen if Trumpcare becomes law are somehow liberals' fault?

Which raises two questions: Why are they doing this, and why do they think they can get away with it? "It will be a very different process that will look very different from the one that we just saw unfolding in the House". Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, John Thune, R-S.D., and John Barrasso, R-Wyo., are in the Senate GOP leadership, and Tom Cotton, R-Ark., is an ambitious up-and-comer who frequently criticizes the House measure.

I hope you'll be there every step of the way, until Trumpcare collapses under the weight of its own cruelty.

White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday morning, said, "The bill that passed out of the House is most likely not going to be the bill that is put in front of the president". Any Senate Republican who joins them will regret it as well.
