Donald Trump says Australia has a better healthcare system than the US

In the clip, Trump simultaneously criticizes the American healthcare system and lauds Australia's.

Sen. Bernie Sanders burst out laughing on live television after hearing President Donald Trump praise Australia's universal health care system on Thursday.

Pressed later in the briefing on Trump's comments, Sanders maintained that the President was simply being nice to a fellow head of state.

During a photo shoot with Turnbull, Trump told the prime minister that he didn't need to tell him about the United States healthcare system under the Affordable Care Act "because you have better healthcare than we do".

Australia boasts a system that is funded by the government and provides either free or highly subsidized healthcare for all of its citizens.

So did US President Donald Trump really revert to favouring universal health care after praising Australia's system?

Trump tried to clarify the remark on Friday.

Mr Turnbull would only offer limited details about his bilateral meeting with Mr Trump, but said they did talk about immigration.

The meeting came as the Trump administration has been stepping up efforts to rally global support for pressuring the North to curb its nuclear and missile programs, while urging China to use more of its influence to rein in the provocative regime.

Turnbull, 62 years old, refused to compare President Trump with former U.S. President Barack Obama, with whom Turnbull also had a warm relationship. During the visit, Turnbull pledged to continue the "intimate" relationship between the two countries.
