A Banks County Sheriff's Office deputy is expected to recover after he was shot Wednesday by a gunman who remains on the loose.
Investigators said as the man was running, he fired at law enforcement officers, hitting a deputy which was still in their patrol auto.
The suspect reportedly attempted an armed robbery at Atlanta Dragway before fleeing in a stolen vehicle. Deputies spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over in the area of Tanger Outlet Center, but the man took off.
The deputy, who has been employed with the BCSO for approximately eight months, was transported to the hospital in "good condition" according to Speed.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the suspect in the shooting kidnapped a woman from her home in Commerce overnight and forced her to drive him into the Atlanta area. "The house is located approximately two miles from where the deputy was shot". She sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Police released a sketch of the suspect on Thursday. While the suspect fled on foot, he continued to shoot toward the deputy's patrol unit. He was wearing what was described as dark clothing.
