FBI, DPS raid some Laredo city, Webb County offices

The FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety have raided Laredo municipal offices, the Webb County courthouse and other offices as they seized materials and sent employees home.

An engineering firm office in Houston was raided by the FBI Wednesday.

A four-city FBI sweep targeted a Houston-based engineering company and a slew of local government offices in Laredo with daylong raids in an investigation still shrouded in mystery. We are uncertain whether the inquiry is focused on the company's activities or those of its business competitors. We intend to comment further when appropriate.

Agents also raided a private engineering company in Laredo and Houston.

According to the firm's website, Dannenbaum Engineering has been awarded contracts for several major projects in Harris County. When a crew arrived, federal agents and McAllen police were at the scene.

"The FBI is lawfully present at the Commissioner's Court Building". No other offices in this building have been affected. She added there wasn't any public safety threat at the location.

The mayor of Laredo, Pete Sanchez, released a statement on Facebook pledging cooperation with the federal investigation.

The FBI has taken control of a building in central Houston.

The FBI has declined to comment on the scope of this law enforcement operation.
