Authorities credit the caretaker of the remote Northern California property for helping police find the girl.

Tad Cummins, 50, a former Tennessee high school teacher accused of abducting a 15-year-old student in March, seen in this booking photo after his arrest by Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department's Special Response Team (SRT) in Cecilville area of Siskiyou County, California, U.S. on April 20, 2017. Cummins, who appeared in court wearing an orange jail jumpsuit and chains shackled around his waist, didn't speak at all.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Kendall Newman ordered him held as both a flight risk and a danger to the public. Cummins' attorney has said the girl went with her teacher willingly, and was not forced, threatened or coerced. The lawyer also said that Cummins is looking forward to getting back to Tennessee to fight the charges against him.

After he was arrested last Thursday, Cummins was charged with kidnapping and a misdemeanor of sexual contact with a minor. The charge carries a minimum of 10 years.

While Elizabeth Thomas got re-acquainted with her family and friends, the complications in her family's domestic case continued. The teacher, however, acknowledged that the girl was "a really good friend and she does leave her other classes to come see him when she needs someone to calm her down", according to a school report dated January 30.

According to Danielle, Elizabeth is choosing who she wants to spend time with.

Seven weeks before he and the girl left Tennessee to spark what became a nationwide manhunt, Cummins was observed on January 23 by another student at the Culleoka Unit School kissing the 15-year-old alleged victim, according to the complaint sworn out by Columbia, Tenn. police detective Jonathan R. The Associated Press is not naming the girl because she is an alleged victim of a sex crime.
