Former Brazilian soccer star Bruno Fernandes has been ordered to return to jail to continue serving a 22-year sentence over the kidnapping and gruesome murder of his ex-girlfriend.
However, he returned to his club's base in the small town of Varginha because police did not have the correct paperwork to detain him overnight.
Thiago Gomes, an investigator at the police station, said: "He came to the police station but we didn't have the documents to hold him".
A goalkeeper convicted over the murder of his girlfriend, whose body was fed to dogs, has been sent back to jail after he was controversially released.
The 32-year-old, who was once seen as a potential national team player for Brazil prior to his incarceration, had spent almost three years in jail after being found guilty of arranging the murder his girlfriend in 2010.
Bruno, as he is universally known in Brazil, was freed in February by the top court pending an appeal against his 2013 sentence of 22 years prison for his role in the woman's slaying.

A statement from the Court today said: "The decision re-establishes Bruno's custody".
Souza signed a contract with Boa Esporte on March 13 and debuted April 8, playing five times.
The club was not immediately available for comment.
The club cancelled Tuesday's training session after the ruling and club directors refused to talk to the media.
"He presented himself but, because the arrest warrant hadn't arrived, he assured to present himself tomorrow [Wednesday] and he can achieve this with me", his attorney, Lucio Adolfo, was quoted as saying by Globoesporte.
