Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis will make his long-awaited 2017 regular-season debut tonight against one of his hometown teams, the Chicago White Sox, at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Kipnis is hitting sixth Friday night, allowing the first five in the lineup-Carlos Santana, Francisco Lindor, Michael Brantley, Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Ramirez-to remain the same.

To make room on the roster, the Indians sent Yandy Diaz to Triple-A Columbus. That was the major question regarding his return, as it afforded manager Terry Francona several different options as to how to configure the lineup. Additionally, Kipnis stole 15 bases in 18 attempts and had a.469 slugging percentage.
