Ehiogu collapsed at Spurs training ground in Enfield at 11:30am on April 20, where he received immediate medical treatment before being transferred to the hospital.
He made his England debut as a substitute in 1996 against China and scored his only global goal during a 3-0 win over Spain five years later.
After Rangers, Leeds as well as Sheffield United he retired in 2009.
Former England defender Ugo Ehiogu has died aged 44, Tottenham have announced.
A number of football stars, past and present, have paid their respects to Ehiogu, including Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and John Hartson (see below).
Ehiogu won four England caps, and joined Spurs as a coach in 2014.
Football Association chairman Greg Clarke said: "We're devastated to hear the news that Ugo Ehiogu has passed away". Ugo's enormous presence will be irreplaceable.

He was taken into custody but while being questioned grabbed another officer's gun and shot him three times, the source added. A man emerged from the vehicle and opened fire on the van with an "automatic weapon", killing one officer instantly, he said.
Ehiogu had made his debut for England in 1996 during Terry Venables's time as manager, but made his most significant contribution under Eriksson, the Swedish coach, who called the defender up to his squad three times.
Harrison, who is on loan at Yeovil, wrote: "One of the most genuine, and caring people I've ever met". Our thoughts are with his family.
John McDermott, head of coaching and player development at Spurs, said: "Words can not express the shock and sadness that we all feel at the club. Our thoughts and sympathies are with all lucky enough to know him".
Following news of Ehiogu's death, Tottenham's planned Premier League 2 game against Manchester United on Monday has been postponed while Spurs have also cancelled all of their academy matches this weekend. "Everyone's thoughts are with Ugo's family at this hard time". Not gona lie. Felt good.
Ron Atkinson was one of Ehiogu's biggest champions and can regard the £40,000 it took to take the teenager from West Bromwich Albion to Aston Villa in August 1991 as one of his most astute moves in the market.
"All of Middlesbrough Football Club will miss him". "I looked at pictures at home this morning and Ugo is in them celebrating".
Boro owner Steve Gibson, who also saw Ehiogu lift the league cup for his club, said: "Ugo and Gareth Southgate were the rock on which Steve McClaren brought the club its best period in its history".
