The bottom line: As if they weren't already, the Patriots will be Super Bowl favorites next year should they keep Butler around.
With Butler signed for 2017 (his $3.91 million salary would go with him if he were traded), the Saints - or any team trading for him - would have controlled cost for this year then could go forward with signing Butler to an extension before he becomes a restricted free agent next March. Should the Bills decline to match the offer, the Patriots will likely let free-agent running back LeGarrette Blount find a new team.
The signing doesn't necessarily mean that Butler will be returning for the 2017 season, as the 27-year-old cornerback could still very well be traded ahead of the NFL Draft.
"Currently, to my understanding, he hasn't signed his tender and so ... we can sign him to an offer sheet, but I don't think we're going to do that and give up the 11th pick".
"We had a chance to visit with him", Payton said of Butler at the time.
"Anything that we do, we are always going to do what is in the best interest of our football team", Caserio said.
OPEC chief says producers seek market stability
Gasoline stocks fell by 1.5 million barrels, following a 3 million barrel decline the previous week. US stockpiles and production have cast doubt on whether the OPEC cuts were enough.
"It's ongoing, if you will".
In the midst of a standoff between Butler and the organization over a new contract, the Patriots signed cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a staggering five-year, $65 million contract that added fuel to the speculation fire that Butler would play elsewhere if a new deal could not be reached.
I think Belichick should consider that selection the best present of his entire life.
He had the game-clinching interception that allowed the Patriots to win the 2015 Super Bowl against Seattle.
The Atlanta Falcons are on New England's home schedule this season and could have been an option for a Super Bowl rematch in Week 1.
