Atlanta won the first meeting against Washington in the regular-season opener for both teams, but the Wizards took the next three including both home games.

In that fixture - the Wizards were eliminated from the playoffs in a heartbreaking loss. There was no Déjà vu to Game 1 between these two teams in the 2015 Eastern Conference Semifinals when John Wall injured his hand after driving to the basket and ended up missing three games.

The Wizards' went just 8-28 from deep, but it was not due to stifling defense from the Hawks.

"That's the last time I was in the playoffs". Like I said, I play in the moment.

A lot has chance since then for the Wizards, including personnel.

HAWKS LINEUP: Rookie Taurean Prince will remain a starter in the playoffs after getting limited minutes for much of the season.

"I won't be finishing first", Wall said. He's the most mild-mannered person that I've been around that has a competitive spirit. "The intensity was sky high".

Former Kentucky Basketball guard John Wall put on an impressive display in the Washington Wizard's victory over the Atlanta Hawks in their first game of the NBA Playoffs. "I've still got some climbing to do".

"We were so locked in all week", Butler said.

"He can score on the perimeter and in the post". They got off to a hot start before unravelling to the point that Atlanta considered blowing the whole team up.

Whatever debate might be had about how justified all the calls were, one thing was clear: All of those interruptions disrupted the flow of the game.

Russell Westbrook (51/10/13) did everything he could to keep the Thunder in contention to win the game, but his teammates couldn't give him any help. But like the first quarter, the refs took over this quarter as they continued to blow the whistles. Wizards C Ian Mahinmi (calf) will not play in Game 3, Wizards coach Scott Brooks said.

"He's a tremendous competitor and he plays with toughness". Not one bit. Instead, he relied on a silly play on words that he says his agent taught him. Not to take anything away from their offense because it was great, but it was expected that their offense would be great. John Wall (32/5/9) and Bradley Beal (31/3/3) combined for 63 points and Marcin Gortat (14/10/3) double-doubled in the win. Wall had 32 of them to go along with nine rebounds and five assists in a game where he showed how much his skill set has developed since his early years with the organization. A chorus of "M-V-P" chants reverberated around the Verizon Center, capping off an explosive 38-point quarter for the Wizards.

The Wizards and Hawks, two teams out of the NBA's Southeast Division, don't exactly like each other.

"I just want to reiterate that it's a long series", said Millsap, who finished with 19 points. In the end, despite plenty of opportunities to steal one on the road, the Hawks were unable to take advantage and bowed out late in the fourth quarter.

Markieff Morris bodied Paul Millsap all day during the Wizards first series playoff win on Sunday. It would be preferable for Washington if the Bulls won, as the Wizards would be favored in that series.

The Hawks have a few days to make adjustments before Game 2 on Wednesday.
