The decision came nearly exactly two years after the former New England Patriots tight end was sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player in June 2013.
It's said the American athlete was found unresponsive in his cellat the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, MA around 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning. He also tried blocking people from entering his cell, which was in a general population housing, by "jamming the door with various items" from the inside, the Department of Corrections' statement said.
In May 2014 he was also pointed to kill two persons exterior of the Boston night club which he committed in 2012 it was a drive shooting case.
"Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window", Fallon said in the statement. Both were put on trial for murder: Simpson for the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in 1994, and Hernandez for the death of Odin Lloyd in 2013.
Walker told The Boston Globe on Wednesday that MA had a high suicide rate among prisoners 10 years ago but that the state has worked on "suicide-proofing" its facilities.
But the team released him in 2013 after he was arrested in the killing of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee. Hernandez was acquitted just days ago of the 2012 shootings of two other men in Boston.
Warburton to captain Lions as Hartley misses out
The 28-year-old Cardiff flanker will lead the Lions in New Zealand this summer and becomes the second player to be named skipper for two Lions tours, following England World Cup victor Martin Johnson.
Hernandez committed suicide on Wednesday morning according to the state corrections department in MA. He would conduct his own investigation, Diaz said.
His death came hours before his former New England Patriots teammates visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory. He said that officials had no concern that Hernandez was planning on taking his own life, and if there was a concern about his well-being, Hernandez would have been transferred to a mental health unit. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As the Associated Press reported, prosecutors accused Hernandez of opening fire on their auto because he felt disrespected when one of the men bumped into him and spilled his drink at a Boston nightclub. That makes Hernandez innocent of the Lloyd murder (full details here).
As the jury was deliberating last week, cameras spied Hernandez blowing kisses to the young daughter he fathered with fiancée Shayanna Jenkins.
Investigators suggested Hernandez shot Lloyd to keep him quiet about the two earlier killings.
"Especially after him getting acquitted of the double murder".
