If you buy a brand new iOS device or a Mac, then Apple's very own Pages, Numbers, Keynote, GarageBand and iMovie apps come free as part of the package. Aside from some of the improvements that it has made to these apps, it has also made a big change rather quietly.
Apple just made iMovie, the entire iWork suite and GarageBand free for everyone.
A host of Apple's most popular productivity and digital creation apps are now free on iOS and macOS. While Apple's software might not be as feature rich as Microsoft's in some cases, but the compatibility within the iOS and Mac ecosystem is epic to say the least. This expands the apps' reach to anyone using Apple devices, even if they never bought new or are using older devices.

These institutions can now download free managed distribution copies of iMovie, GarageBand and iWork apps through the Volume Purchase Program store - and assign them to macOS or iOS devices that they manage through an Apple Configurator or Mobile Device Management solution, according to a technical document published today.
Apple chose to bundle these apps for free in late 2013 with new iOS devices and Macs or offering them as free downloads to those who picked up new hardware.
Since late 2013, Apple had been bundling these apps with new iPhones, iPads, iPod touch devices and Macs, or making them free to download.
