Honestly, what the hell else was he supposed to do?
A person with direct knowledge of the move confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that Gillislee signed New England's two-year, $6.4 million offer sheet.
With a signed tender, a trade can now actually happen. Instead, the Saints are believed to covet Butler in exchange for the No. 32 overall pick they received in the trade that sent Brandin Cooks to New England. This is also the second consecutive year the Patriots have extended an offer sheet to a Bills player, picking up wide receiver Chris Hogan last offseason.
Trump's daughter meets Chinese president, receives Chinese trademarks
Days after the meeting between the two world leaders, President Trump had only nice things to say about the Chinese president. Lyst saw its largest February sales gains for Ivanka-branded products in states won by Donald Trump in the general election.
Reports emerged on Tuesday saying that Butler signed his tender, which is worth $3.91 million for 2017. The reason? Butler was not under contract and couldn't be shipped anywhere by the Patriots until after he signed his tender.
The Patriots announced that Super Bowl XLIX hero cornerback Malcolm Butler had signed his restricted free agent tender with the deadline coming this Friday. Or his new team could franchise him. However, the signing does not necessarily mean Butler will play in New England next season, as a trade remains possible. The fact that the Patriots signed free agent Stephon Gilmore to a five-year, $65 million deal at the start of free agency pretty much guarantees Butler won't be getting heavy long-term dough here. It's no secret that the Saints are looking to improve their secondary, but New England seems unlikely to part with one of their top defensive backs for anything less than a first-round selection.
