Citroen has revealed a new mid-size SUV called the C5 Aircross which will rival the likes of the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga and Kia Sportage.

As yet, only the combined 300hp plug-in hybrid power train (a combination of a 200hp petrol engine and electric motors) has been confirmed for the United Kingdom, while the Chinese market will definitely get the 165 and 200hp 1.6-litre petrol engines, combined with six-speed automatic gearbox. The four-wheel-drive hybrid model will have a claimed all-electric range of up to 60km.

Another major feature of the C5 Aircross is Citroen's new suspension called Progressive Hydraulic Cushions.

The new suspension adds two hydraulic stops to each suspension unit - one for rebound and one for compression. "Citroen says these stops create a "'flying carpet' effect as if the vehicle were flying over bumps and dips in the road". This system has been tuned to help make the new auto "the most comfortable SUV of its time", according to Citroen.

Front-driven models will feature the company's Grip Control which is Citroen's way of improving the traction through the ESP module, offering five modes: "Standard", "Sand", "Off-road", "Snow" and "ESP OFF".

Citroen boast "best in class" space for the new Aircross due to the long wheelbase (2730mm).

Multiple trim levels will also allow a more personal interior, however these have not yet been confirmed. So, not only are the seats created to feel more like armchairs, the air-con system includes a carbon filter to purify the air, and head- and legroom are said to be class-leading.

Multi-state search targets suspect in Facebook video slaying
In the last video he uploaded, Stephen said he "snapped", doesn't give a "f****", and will continue killing until he is caught. Steve Stephens is a 37-year-old man from Cleveland , Ohio who got very popular on social media, but for all the wrong reasons.

Citroen has confirmed however that a panoramic sunroof, heating and massage functions on the front seats and an air quality treatment an an eight inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system, will be options for buyers.

In the United Kingdom, apart from the usual offerings of BlueHDi Diesels and THP petrols - pretty much what the Peugeot 3008 offers - the C5 Aircross is also getting the option of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, just like the Aircross Concept.

As is becoming more and more common, the Citroen C5 Aircross will feature a suite of electronic safety aids that includes automatic dimming headlights, adaptive cruise control with stop function, active lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and cameras all-round to help the driver avoid obstacles when tackling low-speed manoeuvres.

Based on the C5 Aircross concept, the design of the Aircross has been toned down for the production version.

The C5 Aircross launches in China in the second half of this year and in Europe in 2018.

There's no word on pricing as yet either, but don't expect it to cost much more than the Peugeot 3008, which has a P11D value starting at £21,740.
