Twenty-one arrested in California as Trump supporters, opponents clash

Hundreds of President Trump supporters and anti-Trump protesters are having dual demonstrations today near the downtown area at 2151 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Police were forced to use an explosive device to restore order after 1,000 people from competing rallies gathered in the park in Berkeley.

This comes after last month's rally quickly turned into a bloody brawl between Trump supporters and Trump protesters.

Police had placed a barrier of plastic orange poles and orange fence mesh between the two sides.

As of 12:18 p.m., Allston Way between Milvia Street and Martin Luther King Jr. "There have also been numerous reports of pepper spray being used in the crowd".

"There continues to be a number of large fights, some property damage and numerous projectiles being thrown, including fireworks", Berkeley police wrote in a Nixle announcement.

"A member of the crowd released some kind of gas into the air and that gas.one of our officers was exposed to it and the officers have since put on gas masks to protect themselves", White said.

About 250 police officers were deployed to the scene by midafternoon after officials sought assistance from the neighboring Oakland Police Department.

More than 100 similar marches are scheduled across the country on Saturday. "You've earned your stripes, bro", A J Alegria, a 31-year-old Trump supporter who was among the injured in Berkeley, told the LA Times.
