Harry Potter victory at Olivier Awards

The stage follow-up to the world-famous wizard book saga picked up prizes including best new play, and best actor for Jamie Parker, who stars as Harry.

"Dreamgirls", a 1982 Tony nominee had never had a West End production till now, so it was eligible to contend for Best Musical.

When Sam Clemmett returned to Norwich last week to work with MoCo Theatre Company on their new production of A Clockwork Orange at the Shoe Factory Social Club, he spoke of how the whole Harry Potter cast continued to "love the buzz and every single minute" of being involved in the two shows, describing the magic on stage as "amazing". "Cursed Child" follows the misadventures of Harry's middle child, Albus Severus, and former classmates like Hermione and Ron, who are desperately trying to keep up with their own children.

Perth's Tim Minchin has been nominated for the 2017 APRA Song of the Year for his song Come Home (Cardinal Pell).

J.K. Rowling wrote the story for the play with its playwright, Jack Thorne, and Tiffany.

The child rockers of "School of Rock The Musical" won the prize for outstanding achievement in music, while an open-air production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" in London's Regent's Park was named best musical revival.

"John [Tiffany] said the phrase he hates most is someone saying "I should go to the theatre more". Sunday's event had the added boost of radiant sunshine for a positively summery red carpet.

The roster of British talent included: Alfie Boe, John Boyega, Phoebe Fox, Andrew Garfield, Denise Gough, Ruthie Henshall, Amanda Holden, Rufus Hound, Cush Jumbo, Rose Leslie, Maureen Lipman, Paul O'Grady, Sophie Okonedo, Mark Rylance and Russell Tovey.
