The government may also come up with a dictionary with a complete compilation of translation of English-Hindi words. But while accepting these recommendations, Mukherjee rejected some other suggestions made by the committee. The committee had, however, recommended correspondence by all public shareholding companies be in Hindi and all private companies to mention products' names in Hindi. The move is seen as a step towards encouraging the use of Hindi language. Central Ministers were also handed over the speeches in English which were accompanied by Hindi translations.
The President of India and the ministers will soon be bound to deliver their speeches only in Hindi. This will be in contrast to the existing system, wherein ministers issue statements in English, which is supplemented with a Hindi version.
Till now, speeches by central government functionaries, file work and statements were used to be in English, except in Hindi-speaking states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The new rule is expected to impact the working of Union ministries. The President's notification has been sent to all ministries, states and the Prime Minister's Office. The parliamentary panel's 2011 report made 117 recommendations.
North Korea accuses U.S. of stoking nuclear war
On the same day, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Trump will not be telegraphing possible actions against North Korea. He said the U.S. would stand by its "iron-clad alliance" with South Korea and was seeking peace through strength.
Another recommendation that has been accepted says that national carrier Air India should use Hindi in its tickets. It has also been told to keep Hindi newspapers and magazines in flights.
Hindi in schools can be an emotive subject as most states in India are drawn along linguistics lines. Some of the recommendations that were not accepted include fixing a minimum level of knowledge of Hindi for bureaucracy and making Hindi education compulsory up to Class X. The committee had also suggested that posts related to Hindi promotion be created in various ministries besides greater spending on Hindi advertisements. However, the final decision will be taken only after consultations with respective state governments.
