Kenyans sweep Boston Marathan; Americans fare well

Leesburg's Dorothy Beal wasn't always a runner. "It's a real exciting time".

But Briggs struck a deal with her: If Switzer could complete the distance on a training run, he would bring her himself. "I need a 4:55 to do so and I'm hoping for good running weather".

"The crowd got me through the finish line", he said.

Beal has now run 32 marathons and writes a running blog called "Mile Posts".

Nelson, the 2008 Northville valedictorian, qualified for Boston by posting a time of 3:25.32 at the Wineglass Marathon in Corning on October 4, 2015.

But Beal still has some catching up to do.

Inspiration is synonymous with the Boston Marathon, but one participant's incredible run captured attention on social media. The mother and daughter will race on a team with 10 other women sponsored by Hyland's, a homeopathic remedies company.

The past and present collided on Saturday night at the world premiere of "Boston: The Documentary" for executive producer Frank Marshall, 37 years after he ran the Boston Marathon. Jeptoo joins Rosie Ruiz, who was caught cutting the course in 1980, as the only people to be disqualified from the Boston Marathon after breaking the tape on Boylston Street. Among today's competitors will be cancer survivors, people with prosthetic limbs, and others who've overcome unimaginable odds to run on Patriots Day in Boston.

They were followed closely by Americans who grabbed two of the top four women's spots and six of the top 10 for men - the first time that's happened since the race went professional in 1986. She wasn't actually the first woman to run the Boston race-Bobbi Gibb had already run the marathon in 1966 just by jumping in the race-but when Katherine Switzer ran in 1967, she had registered and qualified as "K.V. Switzer". She said she used her initials because her first name was misspelled on her birth certificate, Kathrine, and she was exhausted of repeating the error.

Brogdon and Dellavedova shut down Lowry's teammates as well, as they missed 20 of 23 shots when defended by one of those players. Lowry sounds like he will comply but grudgingly. "Put it this way: I guess I'm going to have to force shots", he said.

"It's definitely for her", Hasay told CBS-affiliate WBZ after the race "I love her so much". Her two-year training regimen included participating in Woodstock Vermont's Hundred Mile Equestrian Race as its first and ONLY runner. "I just know it is a positive thing".

It marked the first time since 1991 that two United States women have finished in the top four. It sounds ridiculous now, but that's what these women were up against. "In the early part of 2015, I chose to set my goal to try and qualify".

A top field will be there, including last year's victor, Lemi Berhanu Hayle of Ethiopia; third-place finisher Yemane Tsegay; 2014 runner-up Wilson Chebet of Kenya, as well as top US marathoners Jared Ward, who finished sixth at the Rio Olympics, and Meb Keflezighi, who gave the race an American victory when it needed it, winning in 2014 when nobody expected it.

Switzer told The Boston Globe she still has that 1967 bib at her home.

Before the race was attacked that day, ME running enthusiasts were proud to hear about Sheri Piers, then 40, of Falmouth was welcomed as the first American to cross the finish line at the marathon.

"Leesburg is so flawless for training".

The 121st Boston Marathon is on its way from Hopkinton to Boston.

"We're like family to each other", said Miskinis, who had both of her parents diagnosed with cancer.

But nine months later, that once forgotten goal of the Boston Marathon began to resurface.
