The eighth film in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise is now the second "Fast" film to open above the century mark in the US, according to Box Office Mojo.
The eighth "Furious" franchise film, which an unforgiving critical eye might say is maybe a few classy vehicle chases ahead of a video game, stars Vin Diesel, The Rock, Ludacris and Charlize Theron.
"The Fate of the Furious" easily outsped the competition in its box-office debut and is on track to be the biggest global movie opening of all time after setting a debut weekend record in China even as its North American revenue missed estimates. The film made an estimated $432.3 million overseas, which lapped the record $316 million that "Jurassic World" made abroad in 2015.
No other movie in history has ever taken in that much in an opening weekend. Before then, however, you can see him in The Fate of the Furious now.
Stateside, Furious 8 opened to $100.2 million, which is down $47 million from Furious 7's opening weekend a couple of years ago. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" garnered $529 million worldwide during its opening weekend beginning Dec.18, 2015, according to website Box Office Mojo.
"This franchise is showing no sign of wear and tear", said Duncan Clark, President of Distribution for Universal Pictures International.

Team-mate Marcel Schmelzer added: 'We would have wished very, very much that they could have found another date for the match. It could easily have been a lot worse. " Most of the guys slept as little as I did ", said Weigl. "I can't forget the faces".
The character responsible for the most damage goes to the villain Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), causing about United States dollars 180 million worth of damage.
In North America, Furious 8 scored the 2nd-biggest launch of the franchise behind Furious 7's $147-M.
"The Fate of the Furious" has numerous returning stars like Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese and Ludacris, but has added some new elements behind the camera in director F. Gary Gray and in front of the camera with Charlize Theron.
The entire franchise has now grossed just under $4 billion globally, too - not too damn bad!
Its nearest competitor was The Boss Baby, which took a $15.5m to land second place.
