Isaiah Thomas played with a heavy heart on Sunday, scoring 33 points in a 106-102 National Basketball Association playoff loss to the Chicago Bulls just one day after his younger sister was killed in a auto crash.
Legendary basketball star Charles Barkley is in hot water over his comments about Boston Celtics player Isaiah Thomas grieving the death of his sister at Sunday game. On Sunday, Thomas was in in the Celtics' starting lineup for Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Chicago Bulls. He wrote a few messages on his sneakers - "Chyna" and "RIP LIL SIS" - and fought through tears on the bench before Sunday's game.
Bradley says it's important now to pick Thomas up on and off the court.
'He's a true competitor and tonight he was playing for his sister and he was playing for his family'. "That's just not a good look, in my personal opinion". According to The New Tribune, witnesses say the vehicle was driving normal before it drifted into the left shoulder and hit a barrier. The heartache and pain could clearly be seen on Thomas' face as he valiantly stuffed it down and scored a team-high of 33 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
Isaiah Thomas was met with a deafening cheer from the crowd when he returned to the court for the Boston Celtics on Sunday night, just one day after his sister was killed in a vehicle accident.
When she hit the Jersey barrier, 'that vaulted the vehicle head-on into the sign post, ' King continued.
'The Fate of the Furious' speeds toward record global debut
Rounding out the top five were " Smurfs: The Lost Village " with $6.5 million and " Going in Style " with $6.4 million. Led by China, which set a three-day record of $ 190 million , the film brought in $432.3 million in some 60 countries.
Thomas, now in his sixth season, grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and starred at the University of Washington.
His coach, Brad Stevens, had admitted before the game that Thomas was "struggling" but still left the decision as to whether he would play up to the star point guard. Heading into Game 1, there was speculation over whether or not he would suit up.
"His plan, as of right now - and, again, subject to him changing if he wants - is that he'll be here (Tuesday) night and then will go to Tacoma after", Stevens told reporters Monday. "He's an awesome, unbelievable player. Those have got to come in his own time and then we will adjust accordingly". He's an All-Star. He didn't need to play, he needed to grieve, and no one would have held it against him.
O'Neal said he ultimately chose to play, and the two hours he spent on the court that night offered him a brief reprieve from the tragedy he was forced to endure.
'He's a hell of a player, ' he said.
Boston's probably not going to have much luck slowing down Butler considering how driven he's been over the course of the last month, but they should be able to find answers for Lopez, who got off to a blazing start in Game 1, and Portis.
